Winners of the 2021 Insect Conservation Competition

The winners of the 2021 Insect Conservation Competition have been announced - and we at DEFLEX® are proud to be able to support this so important contribution to insect conservation as a sponsor and with jury members.

First place and €500 prize money go to Jonte from Bremen with "Saatgutautomat Findorff" - which can be found on Instagram under @naturschutz2go. Jonte has been building seed vending machines from old chewing gum and condom vending machines since 2019 and has also put the building instructions on the internet so that there are as many imitators as possible. And the young student is also very committed to the preservation of wild bees and the protection of all insect species. For us, he is definitely a young insect conservationist with a role model function for young and old.

The winners of the 2nd prize (incl. € 300 prize money) have also given a lot of thought to how insect protection can be implemented.the employees of @forstbetriebmohr have built a tower of life. "The tower, which is a good three metres high, is a habitat for a variety of different creatures from the ground to the roof. Reptiles and snails find a suitable habitat in the dry stone wall. Other floors provide shelter for wild bees and other insects, and the layered deadwood provides food and habitat for numerous beetles and worms. The roof is greened with a species-rich flower mixture," interested people are encouraged to follow suit.

Florian Freiberg from @wildbienenparadies won 3rd place and €200 in prize money. His message is: "Even with little space, you can do a lot for insects and for our wonderful nature with its many little wonders!" Why don't you take a look at his website?
