To store insect protection in winter or not?
Does it make sense to take down and store pollen and insect screens on the windows during the cold season - as we know it from our balcony and terrace furniture? Do we need insect protection when wasps, mosquitoes and other insects are in hibernation? There are different opinions on this.
Very important: You do not have to take down tension frames in winter. Ice and snow, rain and cold will not damage the fabric surfaces or the aluminium frames. A good argument for leaving them hanging or putting them back in early is the postponed pollen season. In certain regions, during a mild winter, certain plants known to cause allergies may already be in bloom in December. And then there are the creepy-crawlies that are also out and about in the cold season - spiders in particular like to crawl into warm houses when it is cold outside.
It is your decision. Regardless, however, the frame and fabric should be cleaned once or twice a year. This is because seeds and tiny insects caught in the fabric can attract birds, which can damage the fabric with their claws and beaks. A clear view by removing pollen and dust is a bonus.
